It is advisable to query our office before sending a book proposal, in order to determine if the subject of your manuscript is of interest. If the project is not a good match, it will save us all time—and save you some postage. A short three- or four-paragraph description of the subject matter, along with some basic information about your experience or qualifications, can be e-mailed to us. Please do not send attachments.

Guidelines for Submitting a Book Proposal to Natural Heritage:

We publish almost exclusively books in the following subjects: Canadian history/heritage, natural history/the environment, outdoors and biography. We will be pleased to consider your work for publication, provided we have the following:

  • A table of contents, Chapter 1, and two additional chapters
  • Your resume/CV and a brief outline of your publishing history. New authors are welcome, provided their work fits within our mandate.
  • A self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage for the return of materials.

If we like what we see, we will ask you to send the full manuscript.

Response time: Minimally between three and six months.

Please Note: We do not accept manuscripts sent by e-mail.
